Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour

  • 500 g minced beef

  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped

  • 1 medium potato, diced

  • 1 small carrot, diced

  • 2 tablespoons cooking oil

  • 1 teaspoon curry powder

  • Salt to taste

  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

  • 1 cup water or stock


How to Make African Meat Pie

Step 1: Prepare the Dough

In a bowl, mix flour, baking powder, and salt. Rub in butter until crumbly. Add cold water gradually and mix to form a firm dough. Wrap and refrigerate for 20–30 minutes.

Step 2: Prepare the Filling

Heat oil in a pot. Add onions and sauté until soft. Add minced beef and cook until browned. Stir in potatoes, carrots, curry powder, salt, and black pepper. Add water and simmer until vegetables are soft and filling is thick. Allow to cool.

Step 3: Roll and Fill

Roll out the dough and cut into circles. Place filling on one half of each circle, fold over, and seal edges.
